DOROTHY MAE VOYLES NEWBY September 8, 1923 - July 9, 2012

Born in Palisades Colorado where her father mined coal. Dorothy came to Redlands for the first time at age seven but her family returned to the South for her father's work. Returning to Redlands in 1942 she was a Technical Clerk at Norton Air Base until promoted as Supervising Clerk. This was a great time as she loved her job, bought a car, and lots of shoes! She danced many weekends at the officers club.

But in 1945 she left for Northern California with her sister Bobbi looking for adventure. And she found it in her future husband Jim Newby. They were married February 27, 1946 in Los Angeles. They began a life with Jim's construction work all over California and Arizona. She had three girls that set her path as a homemaker.

She loved sewing her girls' clothes and they loved her cooking. In 1976 she fulfilled a private dream of graduating high school where she loved being a great student. After Jim retired they built their dream house and Jim became a successful wood carver with Dorothy as front woman from Seaport Village, San Diego to Big Bear. They were having some of the best times of their lives.

When Jim passed in 1987 Dorothy's life was filled with siblings and family, all in the Redlands area. She loved being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband James Newby, sister Bobbi Stinson, brother Homer Voyles, sister Marie Smith, niece Linda Smith Demerest, and loved brother in law William Newby. All are missed. She is survived by her beloved sister Ruby Buckner-Wade; daughters Gloria Young, Donna Wadsen, Debra Jacinto (Gary); and grandchildren Chris Chandler (Evelyn), Alissa Enriquez (Gian), Rebecca Chandler, Julia Newby-Wadsen, Clara Wadsen, William Jacinto and John Jacinto; and 3 great grandchildren Kaleigh Enriquez, Cameron Enriquez and Alexa Enriquez.

Internment will be private.
