Charlotte M. Skells

Longtime resident and native of Redlands, Charlotte M. Skells passed away on May 25, 2012 in Mission Viejo, CA where she lived for the past 7 years. She was born in the old Redlands Hospital when it was located on Nordina Street on Sept. 29, 1917 to Charles and Myrtle Schnitter. She played clarinet in the RHS marching band and violin in the Redlands Orchestra, and graduated from Redlands High School in 1935. After attending Business College in San Bernardino for one year she moved with her parents to Grants Pass, Oregon and worked for Kilgore Realty. She married Ernest LaVerne Skells on January 1, 1938 and returned to Redlands. As a full-charge bookkeeper she worked for Western Fruit Growers, Inc., Taylor’s Super Service, and McEwen’s Furniture Galleries. In retirement she enjoyed her family and pets, gardening and travel. At age 90 she was baptized to honor a late-life salvation and faith in Jesus Christ, and attended Saddleback Church in Lake Forest. Her legacy is personal integrity and devotion to family. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, a brother and two sisters, and is survived by a grateful family including two daughters, Carol Deaton (Ernest Pomatto) of Weed, CA, and Kathy Pulliam of Mission Viejo (son-in-law Trent Pulliam); a granddaughter, Diana Lamb of Mentone; a grandson, Ron Constantine of Redlands and his wife, Bonnie; a great-granddaughter, Carissa Constantine of Redlands; a sister-in-law, Ruberta Reiter of Redlands; also many beloved nephews and nieces and their families, and her extended family of Pulliams in Mission Viejo. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Ave. Redlands. Burial is at Hillside Memorial Park, Redlands. Memorial contributions may be made to Thru the Bible Radio (www.ttb.org), or the Redlands Animal Shelter. Cortner Chapel handling arrangements.
